Trumpet Solo
Water
Solo Trumpet and Piano Accompaniment
The sounds of water inspired me for this piece. The accents and the swells played by the piano accompaniment in the first movement work to depict the crash of thunder during a storm. The second movement captures the sound of the “calm after the storm”. The accompaniment is gentler than in the first movement and lighter, reflective of a more gentle rain. In the final movement, the storm returns in full force. This movement also uses accents to highlight the chaos of the storm. It is highly dramatic, with an unrelenting pulse that propels the piece forward.
