Advanced Tuba Duet


This tuba duet holds a very special place in my heart. I wrote this piece for two good friends and phenomenal musicians I knew in my undergraduate program at DePaul University. Sadly, one of these tubists tragically passed away in a car crash after attending the Aspen Music Festival. As a result, I never got to hear my two friends play the piece. I wanted to write a really showy piece for them, as they were both extremely talented at the tuba. Tuba doesn’t often get moments of virtuosity, so I wanted to write something that really featured the technical capacity of a truly spectacular tubist. The duet allows each player to up the ante as the piece continues, evoking a sense of healthy competition.
